Penhaligon's Babylon is a spicy oriental scent reminiscent of the polished woody creations of Bertrand Duchaufour, which literally shook the world of haute perfumery in the recent past. The composition is dominated by cypriol oil (Cyperus scariosus from Southeast Asia, also known as nagarmotha). As our John Biebel described it, it is "a very unusual herbal extract, whose aroma resembles a cross between dark compote, wood and cough syrup." I would say: medicinal, dense and rather smoky.
